WATER TANKS
OVERFLOW PIPE WARNING
AQUATREK has seen tanks serviced by three downpipes with each diverted to the tanks inlet strainer. Numerous tanks are serviced by two downpipes.
Regulatory gutter and downpipe size requirements are calculated using a formula based on a regions 1 in 20 year storm event and tank overflows invariably reconnect to the downpipe.
In the above situations and during a high intensity storm event, the tank overflow would be required to handle the near maximum volume of two or three same sized downpipes!
The diverting of additional downpipes to a tank fitted with a single overflow connected back to storm-water will contravene plumbing regulations that generally state the downpipe volume must not exceed the tank overflow capacity.
NOTE: The harvesting of extra downpipes by SUPADIVERTA through a tanks bottom inlet/outlet DOES NOT affect overflow capacity provided the static head is below the level of the tanks overflow pipe. See harvest more water.
HANDY HINT: A thin organic scum often develops on the surface of tank water. When the tank fills, the scum passes through the overflow mesh to storm water but may leave deposits on the mesh. The mesh is difficult to inspect and clean and in time could restrict or block the passage of water to the overflow pipe. AQUATREK strongly recommends fitting a FLAP VALVE to the tank overflow in place of the fixed mesh outlet to safeguard against this possibility.
